Recent legislation, HB 7069 Education (CH. 2017-116, Section 53), allows students to carry and possess sunscreen in school without a doctor’s prescription. This becomes effective at the beginning of this school year. Therefore, we have asked the Health Department to provide guidance to our schools about the safe possession and application of sunscreen. Please note the following recommendations: Allow only non-spray lotion and or stick sunscreen (prevents eye and respiratory injury). Ask parents to pick a broad-spectrum, water resistant, sunscreen to protect against UVA and UVB rays with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 or greater. Ask parents to ensure their child knows how to carefully and thoroughly apply sunscreen to all parts of skin exposed to the sun with special care when applying around or near eyes. Label sunscreen with child’s name and school. Support Services will continue to work with our health partners to provided additional information to you as it becomes available regarding proper application of sunscreen and donated sunscreen dispensers for classroom use, storage of sunscreen, and parent permission forms to use school donated sunscreen. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Cathy Burns, (561) 494-1588 , PX 81588.
Important for Parents The District has posted the following message in Edline that alerts active users when they log on: Coming Soon, Middle and High school student grades and attendance: Parents and students should be able to see student grades and attendance very soon. The District adopted a new gradebook this year and the project team is testing the system to make sure it is communicating properly with Edline. Thank you for your patience.
